Bakeries and burger joints have dominated the food scene in Kafr Abdo, Alexandria over the last few years. There aren’t many places for thirsty Alexandrians to get a healthfully blended smoothie, a wholesome salad, a light sandwich, or just a cup of juice.
Until now that is.
Wandering down Ismailia St. (Kafr Abdo), you can’t help but do a double take if you walk past Juice Bar. You’ll be met by rustic, colorful furniture, wooden paneling, and two large black chalkboards on the wall, listing the fresh juices, smoothies, and cold and hot drinks on offer. Juice Bar introduced us to a new, cosmopolitan concept we didn’t know we were missing until we tried it. They offer everything from basic one-fruit smoothies to vegetable-fruit mixes to whey-boosted shakes for your post-workout drink. They also serve salads, sandwiches and every kind of hot and cold coffee you can think of.
We decided to step out of our comfort zone and tried some of their more daring drinks:
It’s a yummy blend of spinach, bananas and mango. We never thought we’d be saying this, but this one might just be our favorite. Apparently, we love spinach now…which is good considering the fact that it is among the world’s healthiest foods. We all know that Popeye made himself super strong by eating spinach, but you may be surprised to learn that he may also have been helping to protect himself against inflammatory problems, oxidative stress-related problems, cardiovascular problems, bone problems, and cancers at the same time.
A delicious combination of arugula and mango because who doesn’t love mangos? Arugula has antioxidant benefits from glucosinolates and detoxifying power from enzymes. It’s an excellent source of fiber, boosts the immune system, and promotes bone strength. Must we go on? Arugula also provides high levels of protein, thiamin, riboflavin, vitamin B6, zinc, copper, and pantothenic acid (vitamin B5) for raising good cholesterol levels and lowering the bad.
This smoothie is made up of strawberries and beets. Yup, BEETS. Juice Bar decided to make beets taste delicious because their health benefits were just too good to pass out on. Beets are high in immune-boosting vitamin C, fiber, and essential minerals like potassium and manganese. Translation: they’re good for your nerve and muscle function, your bones, liver, kidneys, and pancreas.
This one’s a twist on the above drink. It also contains beets, in addition to arugula and bananas. In addition to the many benefits of beets and arugula, bananas reduce swelling, protect against type II diabetes, aid weight loss, strengthen the nervous system, and help with the production of white blood cells. Bananas also help prevent kidney cancer, protects the eyes against macular degeneration and builds strong bones by increasing calcium absorption.
The sweetness of the hibiscus perfectly complements the sourness of the lemonade. It’s official—we’re never going back to plain lemonade!
You can’t go wrong with this smoothie. It’s a blend of strawberries, bananas, pineapple and just a hint of vanilla ice-cream. All that’s missing is your coconut bikini!
The verdict is in. We’re in love with Juice Bar’s fresh, natural vibe, not to mention their scrumptious smoothies!
