Fun Fact: Mohamed Salah’s 26th birthday is today! He was born on June 15, 1992, which means he wasn’t even born the last time Egypt played in the World Cup.

This made us wonder how old were the Egyptian national team’s players last time Egypt made it to the World Cup back in 1990.

  • Essam El Hadary, born in 1973, was 17 years old.
  • Ahmed Fathi, born in 1984, was 6 years old.
  • Mohamed Abdel Shafy was 5 years old.
  • Tarek Hamed was 2 years old.
  • Ahmed Hegazi was born one year AFTER the 1990 World Cup.
  • Mohamed Salah and Mohamed El Nenny were born 2 years after.
  • Amr Warda, Ramy Rabia, Saleh Gomaa, and Ahmed Hassan Koka were born 3 years after.
  • Mahmoud Hassan Trezeguet was born 4 years after.
  • Ramadan Sobhi, the youngest player, was born in 1997, 7 whole years after the last time Egypt qualified for the World Cup.

Another Fun Fact: If you take the ages of the entire team, average it, and round it to the nearest year, it’s 28 years. We find that very interesting, given that the last time Egypt when to the World Cup was 28 years ago. Coincidence? Maybe.

We’ve got a great team, mostly far from retirement. So, FIFA… Egypt’s here to stay!
