2017 was a year full of surprises in the music industry where the billboard music awards of 2017 featured performances from some of the best artists in the industry who deserved more than just one award. But which of these amazing performances rocked the stage?
Miley Cyrus “Malibu”
The launch of “Malibu” earlier this month confirmed that Miley was past her Bangerz era, but her bittersweet Billboard Music Awards performance marks the end of her twerking days. Cyrus signaled to the fans rooting for a country-influenced new sound that, yes, happy tears are very much allowed.
While Drake’s “Gyalchester” was not the killer pop moment that something like “Passionfruit” would have been, the Billboard Music Awards man of the hour certainly wowed by opting to rap it in the middle of exploding fire and water. Drake certainly grabbed out attention with that killer performance.
Celine Dion “My heart will go on”
And who’s heart doesn’t beat with every “near, far, wherever you are”. Titanic’s stunning song “My heart will go one” certainly caught our hearts and set it on fire Bravo Celine! Just like Celine Dion’s voice, in Las Vegas or wherever she is at that particular moment. Twenty years after “My Heart Will Go On” dominated popular culture, Dion’s performance at the 2017 ceremony was the right type of nostalgia, as Dion’s in-the-round singing, commanding presence and blooming stage setup helped highlight the reasons why the world fell in love with Jack, Rose and their anthem in 1997. Her performance certainly left us with tears on our cheeks and emotional hearts.
Bruno Mars “Versace on the floor”
Even though “Versace on the floor” isn’t a show stopper but Bruno Mars is an expert in keeping things interesting and getting that adrenaline pumping.
