Challenge accepted!

You might have noticed a few friends posting mysterious messages in the last few days, with the even more subtle caption, “Challenge accepted,” offering no explanation whatsoever. On first seeing the message, you might think it’s just an attention-seeking post by that girl from work. Once you see a few more similar posts, you might start to think there’s something going on and you’re not in on it, resorting to Googling why on earth people are doing this. Even Gigi Hadid joined in!

It’s been two years since the Ice Bucket Challenge, and viral challenges on Facebook look like they’re here to stay. So what’s this new cryptic ‘challenge’? It’s to fight against the disease in support of cancer patients and survivors.

Almost everyone knows someone who was a victim of cancer, a survivor of cancer, or is currently fighting this fatal disease. Approximately 39.6% of men and women will be diagnosed with cancer of any site at some point during their lifetime. That’s almost two out of every five people. Join the fight against the disease, and accept the challenge!

BUT, the problem is, raising awareness isn’t enough. Do something about it. Simply include a link to a charity that supports cancer in your post. Try one of the following:

Children’s Cancer Hospital: To donate 5LE, send a blank SMS to 57357

Baheya: To donate 5LE, send a blank SMS to 9598 or go to baheya.org/donate
