All the specs and key features!
It’s that time of the year again! The time Apple releases the next generation of iPhone—the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus. Although aesthetically similar to the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus, there are many, many changes. We’re talking a pressure-sensitive home button, better camera, a faster processor and improved battery life, as well as having no headphone jack. It comes in a new range of colors and has a memory starting size of 32GB.
No more headphone jack?!?!
Instead of the traditional headphone connection, iPhones now come with earphones that fit into the phone’s Lightning port (the “charger hole” for all you non-tech geeks!). There will also be wireless Apple AirPods, powered by a W1 chip. Infared sensors detect when each pod is in your ear and motion sensors control the headphones to use Siri and detect your voice. Beats have also released two versions of wireless headphones for the iPhone 7 models. The pods can connect to Apple watches, laptops and iPads. Also, the iPhone 7 will also come with stereo speakers for the first time, placed at the top and bottom of the device.
An even BETTER camera!
The smaller 4.7-inch device has a f/1.8 lens that lets 50% more light onto the lens, a new 12MP sensor that’s 60% faster and 30% more energy efficient. The result? Even sharper photos! There’s also a dual-lens camera, allowing increased quality when zooming in on a photo.
The iPhone 7 Plus, on the other hand, has two 12MP cameras—one with a wide angle lens and the other with a telephoto lens that can zoom 2X in high quality. The telephoto lens means the camera can zoom to 10X with optical and soft zoom.
Cameras on both models will also have 12 megapixel sensors and 4K video recording capability. It also enables live editing of video files. There’s also higher image stabilization and a new camera flash to improve photos shot in low-light. The number of LED’s has also been doubled from two to four, giving you two cool and two cold, to create a more effective flash, with 50% more light and a flicker sensor to make it look like natural light.
All you selfie lovers out there, we’ve got great news! The front camera has been upgraded to 7MP from 5MP!
Looks DO matter.
Apple has introduced two new colors: A matte “black” and a glossy black will join silver, gold and rose gold. The glossy black will be offered only on the 128GB and 256GB models. Other than that, the iPhone 7 looks similar to the current iPhone 6s and 6s Plus but with the antenna bands moved from the back of the device to the edges.
A longer battery life (yes, please!).
The iPhone 7 will last two hours longer than an iPhone 6s and an hour longer than iPhone 6s Plus. In other words, the battery on the iPhone 7 lasts 14 hours when using WiFi and 12 hours on 3G/4G, while the iPhone 7 Plus lasts 15 hours on WiFi and 15 hours on 3G/4G.
More powerful performance.
The model will be powered by a new Apple A10 Fusion which has a 64-bit 4 core CPU. It’s 40% faster than A9 (the one used in iPhone 6s) as well as 40% more powerful graphics performance.
Unfortunately, getting your phone wet has happened way too many times. The iPhone7 can withstand immersion in up to 1 meter of water for 30 minutes, with a water-resistant rating of IPX67.
Vibrating home button.
The home button now vibrated when touched to give let you know you’ve pressed on it. This feature already exists in Macbooks.
So what’s next?
Rumor has it, the 2017 iPhone will include the chassis being made entirely from glass and to have an edge-to-edge display with an OLED screen. That’s a major step forward from the LCD screens use now!
