Hearing of Avicii’s death the same day he was performing at Coachella, DJ Kygo dedicated the last song of his set to his friend, who died Friday at 28. It was, he said, his favorite Avicii tune: “Without You.”
Grammy-nominated Avicii, a Swedish DJ whose real name was Tim Bergling, was found dead Friday in Oman. One of the most successful DJs in the industry, he worked with influential artists including Madonna, and tributes filled social media as news of his death spread.
First up, Kygo brought out a huge guest: Ariana Grande performing her new song “No Tears Left To Cry”. Kygo also performed a tear-jerking tribute for Avicii, who unexpectedly passed away on Friday at 28. Kygo finished his set by saying a few words in dedication to Avicii and then playing “Without You.” While not the most popular Avicii song, Kygo said it was his favorite song from the Swedish producer.
When the opening of the song “Without You” began, a photo of Avicii on a white background faded in onto the Coachella screens and stayed on throughout the entire song. No fancy special effects or art work, just Avicii’s photo in a touching tribute.
He finished by projecting an image of Avicii on the massive screens of the Coachella Stage, along with the words “Rest in Peace” and “We Will Miss You.”
