In case you haven’t heard of it yet, Khloe Kardashian is hosting a new show called “Revenge Body”, which is basically a weight loss show (like “The Biggest Loser”). The show is about Khloe mentoring men and women who have been dumped by reinventing themselves ‘from the inside out.’ Some think there is nothing wrong with this, while others declared the show a step backward in body positivity.
It’s true that living well is the best form of revenge, but some people have issues with the link between living well (i.e. working out and eating well) with appearance. Living well doesn’t need to equal losing weight (yet having all the right curves in all the right places). Living well can mean spending more time on yourself, by the pool, reading a book, or more time meditating and more time with your best friends. Living well doesn’t need to equal ‘looking hot’.
Khloe Kardashian herself has been publically battling body image issues for years, being referred to as the ‘fat’ sister. But critics have been asking, what was the plan here, exactly? Make exes realize what he’s missing out on? Get back together with someone who’s told you they’re no longer attracted to you because of some weight gain? What happens when you gain weight in the future? Or is it just to show them what they’ve missed out on?
Resisting the idea that you’re only deserving of love and companionship once you look a certain way can be hard. It helps to remember that anyone who would only love you or consider you worthy of their time once you look a certain way is not someone worth spending time with.
That being said, I don’t think there’s anything wrong with this show. Anyone who has gone through a w breakup can understand the stress, ache and anger than comes with it. Focusing your time and energy on bettering yourself (not necessarily to look ‘hotter’ but to be healthier by getting more fit or eating cleaner) is a far better outlet for these negative feelings. Better than sitting in bed eating ice cream, why not attend a spinning class and cycle the rage out?
